Resumen

Tal y como se señala en abundante documentación del siglo XV, cuando llegaron los primeros conquistadores europeos a las Islas Canarias, observaron como los canarios desarrollaban sencillas estrategias de captación y canalización de las aguas para el riego de las huertas. En los repartimientos, iniciados en 1485, las tierras se repartieron con el agua, vinculando el agua de las cumbres a las tierras bajas, donde se implantó el primer gran monocultivo, la caña de azúcar. Una vez distribuidas las tierras de regadío, los agraciados formaron un primer heredamiento. A partir de este momento, las acequias se van extendiendo por el territorio generando a su paso un rico patrimonio que aún perdura, y cuya lógica territorial es la que se pretende desentrañar con la tesis en curso. Esta comunicación presenta el estado de la cuestión hasta el momento en relación a la hipótesis planteada, y el posicionamiento de la tesis dentro del panorama general existente

As noted in many documentation of the XVI century¹ when the first European conquerors arrived to the Canary Islands, observed as canaries had developed simple strategies for attracting and channeling water to irrigated orchards² In the initial distribution, launched in 1485³ the lands were divided with water, linking water from the peaks to the lowlands, where the first large monoculture was introduced, sugar cane. Once distributed the irrigated land, the graceful ones formed the first irrigation community, called “heredamiento”⁴. Starting from that moment, the irrigation ditches spreading through the territory generating in its wake a rich heritage that still exists, whose territorial logic is pretended to be developed with the thesis in progress. This paper presents the status of the issue so far in relation to the formulated hypothesis, and the positioning of the thesis within the existing state of the issue.
