Resumen

Se analiza el patrimonio natural y cultural de una parte del macizo de Famara-Guatifay, en particular los yacimientos paleontológicos de Valle Grande y Valle Chico a través de un itinerario didáctico-pedagógico. Tratamos unidades claves de Lanzarote: la formación del macizo, ecosistema en el que hace entre 4, 3 y 3,8 millones de años vivió la fauna más antigua del Archipiélago, el aprovechamiento del suelo con la construcción de gavias y arenados artificiales. El recorrido se apoya en elementos del entorno que se remiten a la cultura aborigen y a la tradicional: asentamientos, aljibes, caños, caleras, vegetación, etc. También se facilitan claves para entender la problemática actual centrada en la formación de un depósito con presencia de huevos fósiles de ratites, tortugas, boas y gasterópodos, animales de los que no tenemos la certeza de cómo llegaron a una pequeña isla que junto a Los Ajaches se transformó en Lanzarote.
