Resumen

La presente comunicación “La presencia emblemática de la Candelaria en la ruta de la mar Atlántica: Canarias-Cuba-México”, está estructurada bajo un énfasis global, pero respetando las especificidades regionales. A través del avance del imperio Español, Canarias, Antillas y América, recibieron las tradiciones católicas. La Península fue crisol de culturas diversas de Europa y Oriente, de ese modo el simbolismo católico, se nutrió de deidades veneradas en sitios ajenos al cristianismo. Es aquí donde la influencia de la cultura canaria en todo este proceso de sincretismo religioso y cultural de facto fungió como eje de la colonización y sello definitivo, de los nuevos rasgos de la identidad americana. En las Islas Canarias, los astros tenían importancia entre guanches y condicionaban sus creencias. Entonces no es casualidad que la devoción a la Candelaria se haya sincretizado en sitios donde se adoraba deidades relacionadas con los cuerpos naturales de agua, cuevas y estrellas.
