Resumen

En Hablar del Guadalquivir en función de América equivale a analizar el auge económico, urbanístico y demográfico de Sevilla y Sanlúcar de Barrameda, explicar el régimen impuesto al tráfico marítimo, mencionar todas las expediciones de descubrimiento y conquista del nuevo continente, juzgar el problema de la navegación fluvial, etc. Sin embargo, y dado los límites impuestos, con esta comunicación vamos a intentar sintetizar el paisaje portuario y comercial de la Sevilla del siglo XVI, por aquel entonces sede del monopolio con las Indias. Conocedores de que esta temática ya ha sido ampliamente tratada, solo deseamos aportar una nueva visión actualizada donde la actividad marinera sea nuestro eje vertebrador pues, al fin y al cabo, todo se debió a este río andaluz.
