Los intérpretes en el tráfico de esclavos (siglos XV-XVIII) / Interpreters in the slave trade (XV-XVIII century)

Resumen

El tráfico de esclavos africanos creó problemas de intercomunicación entre estos y sus captores, con la nueva comunidad donde fueron a vivir, y entre los propios esclavos, dada la multiplicidad de países de procedencia, etnias y lenguas. Las dificultades, empezaban en África, aumentaban en los barcos negreros y se multiplicaban en el Nuevo Mundo. En la presente comunicación se bosquejan las estrategias empleadas para facilitar la comunicación a través de los intérpretes.

The African slave trade created problems of communication between the slaves and their captors, with the new community they found themselves in, and, given their multiple countries of origin, ethnic groups and languages, among the slaves themselves. The difficulties began in Africa, increased on the slave ships and became even greater in the New World. The present paper outlines the strategies used to facilitate communication through the interpreters.
