Resumen
El mar y en general el espacio marítimo del litoral de las Islas han desempeñado en el último medio siglo un protagonismo ascendente a través de nuevas actividades vinculadas al ocio, el turismo y el deporte. Ahora bien, ese incremento de los nuevos usos costeros y marítimos no solo es de los turistas que nos visitan, sino también de la propia población residente en las Islas, que los llevan a cabo con sus empresas y políticas institucionales o como entusiastas acuáticos en sus momentos de esparcimiento. Los efectos socioculturales de estos cambios en las Islas a lo largo de las últimas décadas, han quedado generalmente escondidos por sus más explícitos e «importantes» efectos socioeconómicos y medioambientales, relegando su análisis a trabajos puntuales y episódicos que apenas tienen en cuenta las nuevas consideraciones simbólicas sobre este espacio marino y las nuevas ritualizaciones a las que han dado lugar. Varios son los ejemplos que tomaremos para analizar estos procesos.
The sea and the marine space of the coastline of the Canary Islands have played an important role over the last fifty years by means of the new leisure, tourism and sport activities. However, the increased use of the coastline and the ocean is not made only by the tourists who visit us but by the local population as well, who carry it out through their companies and institutional policies or merely as individuals who enthusiastically enjoy the sea in their spare time. The sociocultural effects of these changes in the Islands throughout the last decades have remained hidden behind the more explicit and «important» socioeconomic and environmental effects. This has resulted in episodic and occasional analyses that barely take into account the new symbolic aspects about this marine space and the new ritualizations that have ensued. There are various examples through which we will analyze these processes.
