«Maspaloma» ó «Los Llanos de Axulagal» / «Maspaloma» or «Plains of Axulagal»
Resumen
El pueblo de Maspalomas, antiguamente conocido como: «Los Llanos de Axulagal» y/o «Maspaloma» -sin «s»-, hasta los años sesenta, fue un espacio marginal dentro del contexto insular; pretendemos aunar sus referencias históricas y reivindicar el peso que merece en los contextos históricos y culturales de la isla de Gran Canaria y de Canarias. Para ello, hemos recurrido a las fuentes de prestigiosos historiadores e investigadores que entre los siglos del XVI al XX, viajaron a Canarias y, más concretamente a Maspalomas; en verdad, ellos son los auténticos protagonistas de este trabajo.Maspalomas, tuvo en tiempos de importante trascendencia histórica, un papel protagonista desconocido y, cada día más, vemos cómo despierta el interés de propios y foráneos. El conocimiento del importante bagaje social e histórico que Maspalomas ha aportado a la Isla y a Canarias, mitigaría el desarraigo existente hoy en día entre la ciudadanía maspalomera, principalmente entre niños y jóvenes.
The town of Maspalomas, formerly known as: «Los Llanos de Axulagal» and/or «Maspaloma» -without «s»-, until the sixties, was a marginal space within the insular context; we intend to combine its historical references and claim the weight it deserves in the historical and cultural contexts of the island of Gran Canaria and the Canary Islands. To do this, we have resorted to the sources of prestigious historians and researchers who, between the 16th and 20th centuries, traveled to the Canary Islands and, more specifically, to Maspalomas; in truth, they are the true protagonists of this work. Maspalomas, had in times of important historical importance, an unknown leading role and, every day more, we see how it arouses the interest of locals and foreigners. The knowledge of the important social and historical baggage that Maspalomas has contributed to the Island and the Canary Islands, would mitigate the uprooting that exists today among the citizens of Maspalomas, mainly among children and young people.
