El desabastecimiento de carbón en Canarias durante la Segunda Guerra Mundial / Coal Shortage in the Canary Islands during the Second World War
Resumen
El objetivo de esta investigación es estudiar la evolución de las existencias de carbón en Canarias durante la Segunda Guerra Mundial y explicarla en el contexto de la política de no beligerancia española durante dicho conflicto y la autarquía que dominó el primer franquismo. Las fuentes principales consisten en los documentos del Estado Mayor de la Comandancia Naval de Canarias, a través de los cuales se constata la escasez de combustible en el archipiélago. Como principal conclusión destaca que, aunque la carencia de carbón no fue tan grave como durante la Primera Guerra Mundial, hubo evidentes dificultades para garantizar el abastecimiento de carbón e incluso problemas de coordinación entre las diferentes autoridades encargadas de gestionar la distribución de este combustible.
The objective of this research is to study the evolution of the stocks of coal in the Canary Islands during the Second World War and to explain it in the context of the Spanish non-belligerence policy during this conflict and the autarchy that prevailed in the first Francoism. The main source is the documentation of the General Staff of the Naval Command of the Canary Islands, which shows the shortage of combustible in the islands. The main conclusion is that, although the shortage of combustible wasn’t so serious as in the First World War, there were obvious difficulties to guarantee the supply of coal and indeed coordination problems between the authorities in charge of the distribution of this combustible.
