Resumen
En 1684, el mercader y naviero Ignacio Pérez Caro transportó 97 familias de agricultores desde Tenerife hasta Santo Domingo, en las Antillas. Fue el primer grupo de migración organizado por la Corona de España, de acuerdo con el gobierno de Canarias. Su finalidad era repoblar la zona occidental y norte de La Española, pero finalmente se establecieron junto a las murallas de la capital, donde fundaron la villa de San Carlos de Tenerife, en 1685, y para regirla, el primer cabildo canario en América. Pérez Caro, como recompensa, fue nombrado almirante Ad honorem. En1690, compró los cargos de gobernador, capitán general y presidente de la Audiencia de Santo Domingo. Analizaremos estos nombramientos como ejemplo de la venalidad y corrupción vigente, a fines del siglo XVII en la corte de Carlos II.
In 1684, the merchant and shipowner Ignacio Pérez Caro transported 97 farming families from Tenerife to Santo Domingo, in the Antilles. It was the first migration group organized by the Spanish Crown in agreement with the Government of the Canary Islands. Their purpose, was to repopulate the western and northern part of Hispaniola, but they finally settled on a hilltop near to the walls of the capital where they founded the town of San Carlos de Tenerife in 1685, and in order to govern it, the first Canarian Town Council in America. Pérez Caro, as a reward was appointed admiral Ad honorem. In 1690 he bought the posts of governor, captain general and president of the Audiencia de Santo Domingo. We will analyse these apointments as an example of the venality, indeed the corruption, at the end of the 17th-century at the court of Carlos II.
