Relación de emigrantes canarios avecinados en Xalapa, México, siglos XVI, XVII y XVIII / List of Canarian Emigrants in Xalapa, XVI, XVII and XVIII Centuries
Resumen
En este estudio se presenta una relación de 21 emigrantes canarios que se asentaron en Xalapa y sus alrededores a partir del siglo XVI y hasta el XVIII. La información se obtuvo de las Actas Notariales que resguarda la Universidad Veracruzana. Se incluye información que nos permite conocer algunos detalles relacionados con su forma de vida, principalmente los concernientes a alianzas matrimoniales y mercantiles, así como de los oficios que desempeñaron. El trabajo es relevante porque rompe con la tradición de generalizar la temprana presencia de «españoles» en la región y a cambio, visibiliza la raíz canaria que guarda la población xalapeña.
This study presents a list of 21 Canarian emigrants who settled in Xalapa and its surroundings from the sixteenth century to the seventeenth. The information was obtained from the Notarial Acts protected by the Universidad Veracruzana. It includes information that allows us to know some details related to their way of life, mainly those concerning marriage and commercial alliances, as well as the trades they performed. The work is relevant because it breaks with the tradition of generalizing the early presence of «Spaniards» in the region and makes, visible the Canarian root that keeps the Xalapeña population.
