La emigración gallega a América contribuyó a moldear una forma de cultura atlántica común. La idea de la mujer que queda en casa atendiendo a mayores y las escasas propiedades familiares es solo una parte de la realidad. La mujer emigrante se integra pronto a la vida laboral y, en su quehacer, también crea cultura desde la distancia. Esta cultura hecha por las emigrantes en América repercute igualmente en una Galicia en construcción y búsqueda nacional desde el siglo XIX. Siempre existió una visión mítica de su papel construida desde las palabras de artistas, críticos y hombres de letras gallegos. Las páginas de las revistas americanas y su incidencia en Galicia muestran que para ellos lo atractivo es la arrolladora fortaleza con que la mujer decide mantener viva la estructura social y continuar adaptándose a un tradicional matriarcado impuesto por la ausencia masculina.

Galician emigration to America helped to shape a common form of Atlantic culture. The idea of the woman who stays at home looking after the elderly and the scarce family property is only part of the reality. Emigrant women were soon integrated into working life and, in their work, they also created culture from afar. This culture created by emigrants in America had repercussions in Galicia, which had been under construction and in search of national identity since the 19th century. There has always been a mythical vision of their role constructed from the words of Galician artists, critics, and men of letters. The pages of American magazines and their impact on Galicia show that, for them, what is attractive is the overwhelming strength with which women decide to keep the social structure alive and continue to adapt to a traditional matriarchy imposed by the absence of men.
