Este artículo se centra en la colección de bustos del Museo Canario en Gran Canaria, prestando especial atención a los bustos de islandeses. La mayoría de los bustos de la colección del Museo Canario proceden de diferentes expediciones militares y científicas de Francia en el siglo XIX. Los bustos islandeses se realizaron en 1856, pero muchos de los bustos del Museo Canario proceden de una expedición al mares del Sur entre 1837 y 1840. Las réplicas de estos bustos se compraron a finales del siglo XIX al Musée d’Ethnographie du Trocadéro en París y se trasladaron a Gran Canaria. El artículo muestra que los bustos reflejan un mundo interconectado durante mucho tiempo, tomando como referencia el concepto de Mary L. Pratt «zona de contacto» («contact zone») y el concepto de Jeffrey David Feldman «punto de contacto» («contact point»), para destacar sus vínculos con la historia colonial y los diversos encuentros que ocurrieron en este contexto.

This article focuses on the collection of busts at the Museo Canario in Gran Canaria, paying special attention to the busts of Icelanders. Most of the busts in the Museo Canario collection come from different military and scientific expeditions in France in the 19th century. The Icelandic busts were made in 1856, but many of the busts in the Museo Canario come from an expedition to the South Seas between 1837 and 1840. Replicas of these busts were purchased at the end of the 19th century from the Musée d'Ethnographie du Trocadéro in Paris. and will move to Gran Canaria. The article shows that the busts reflect a world interconnected for a long time, taking as reference the concept of Mary L. Pratt "contact zone" ("contact zone") and the concept of Jeffrey David Feldman «contact point» («contact point»), to highlight its links to colonial history and the various encounters that occurred in this context.
