La demografía histórica en Arucas durante la Edad Moderna: estudio de los padrones parroquiales de 1794 y 1815 / Historical Demography in Arucas during the Modern Age: Study of the Parish Registres of 1794 and 1815

Resumen

Los estudios y análisis realizados por la demografía histórica experimentaron un considerable auge en el último tercio del siglo XX. El presente estudio se basa en la cuantificación y análisis de los padrones parroquiales de Arucas registrados en los años de 1794 y 1815. Aunque también existe un padrón del año 1786, éste no se ha tenido en cuenta debido a las dudas que presentan los registros (tachaduras, rectificaciones, anotaciones sin fechas) y que nos plantean que algunos datos no son fiables y pueden inducir a errores. Hay que aclarar, no obstante, que estos tres padrones, junto con otra documentación municipal, no formaban parte hasta hace unos años de los fondos del Archivo Municipal de Arucas, desconociéndose la misma, pues fue entregada por la familia del que fuera Cronista Oficial de Arucas Pablo de Jesús Vélez, tras el fallecimiento de éste en 2018. Los citados padrones debieron realizarse en todas las parroquias de las islas aunque sólo en muy pocas se menciona su existencia, por lo cual, son escasos los trabajos de investigación relacionados con su estudio.

The studies and analyses carried out by historical demography experienced a considerable boom in the last third of the 20th century. The present study is based on the quantification and analysis of the parish census of Arucas registered in the years 1794 and 1815. Although there is also a register from 1786, this has not been taken into account due to the doubts presented by the registers (erasures, rectifications, annotations without dates) and which suggest that some data are unreliable and may be misleading. It should be clarified, however, that these three census records, together with other municipal documentation, did not form part of the Arucas Municipal Archives until a few years ago, and were unknown, as they were handed over by the family of the former Official Chronicler of Arucas, Pablo de Jesús Vélez, after his death in 2018. The aforementioned registers must have been kept in all the parishes of the islands, although only very few mention their existence, which is why there are few research works related to their study.
