Lazos atlánticos: un jardín canario en la isla de Gorée / Athantic Ties: A Canarian Garden on the Island of Gorée

Resumen

Michel Adanson (1727-1806) fue un botánico y naturalista francés, miembro de la Academia Francesa de las Ciencias, que inicia un viaje de investigación a la colonia francesa de Senegal en 1749, haciendo escala en la isla de Tenerife. La presente comunicación sobre los jardines históricos de la Isla de Gorée verifica los lazos botánicos establecidos por Adanson y el traslado de material biológico a los inicios de la segunda mitad del siglo XVIII entre el archipiélago canario, concretamente la zona Norte de la Isla de Tenerife, y la Isla senegalesa de Gorée, y las colonias francesas americanas. También revela el interés metodológico del mismo botanista por reunir especies canarias en un mismo espacio para investigar en su aclimatación, cultivo y posible traslado hacia otros jardines de la red transnacional o para su explotación a mayor escala, creando para tal fin en la isla de Gorée un Jardín Canario de aclimatación.

Michel Adanson (1727-1806) was a French botanist and naturalist, member of the French Academy of Sciences, who began a research trip to the French colony of Senegal in 1749, making a stopover on the island of Tenerife. This paper about the historical gardens of the Island of Gorée verifies the botanical links established by Adanson and the transfer of biological material at the beginning of the second half of the 18th century between the Canary Islands, specifically the North area of the Island of Tenerife, and the Senegalese Island of Gorée, and the French American colonies. It also reveals the methodological interest of the same botanist in gathering Canarian species in the same space to investigate their acclimatization, cultivation and possible transfer to other gardens of the transnational network or for their exploitation on a larger scale, creating for this purpose on the island of Gorée a Canary Garden for acclimatization
