Este trabajo expone una nueva interpretación de la formación del movimiento obrero canario (finales del siglo XIX-1914). De ella se desprende que en este proceso histórico intervino un factor habitualmente no tenido en cuenta: el lenguaje como “discurso”. Ello conduce a reconsiderar el papel explicativo concedido a factores como la proletarización o la industrialización.
This paper exposes a new interpretation of the formation of the Canary Labour Movement (end of the 19th century-1914). Its main conclusion is that a factor that has hardly taken into account participated decisively in this process: language as “discourse”. This implies the reconsideration of the explicative role attributed to other factors, as proletarianization or industrialization, and opens new ways of historical explanation.
