El matrimonio de los tiempos modernos se sostiene sobre los pilares básicos instituidos a partir del Concilio de Trento, la monogamia, la exogamia, la intervención eclesiástica en su regulación y la necesidad del consentimiento paterno, lo que determina un fuerte carácter patriarcal. El discurso de la modernidad insiste reiteradamente en la preponderancia de la autoridad paterna. En el siglo XVIII esta práctica adquiere mayor fuerza legal con la Pragmática sobre matrimonios que promulga Carlos III el 23 de marzo de 1776. En este trabajo analizaremos el impacto que la aplicación de la norma de 1776 tuvo en los matrimonios en las islas. Las fuentes consultadas muestran una realidad distinta a la transmitida por el discurso oficial. Las licencias de matrimonio nos permiten adentrarnos en un espacio de conflicto familiar. El enfrentamiento entre padres e hijas/os, hombres y mujeres jóvenes, que desafían la voluntad paterna en la búsqueda de matrimonios por amor.
The marriage of modern times argues on the pillars established from the Council of Trent, monogamy, intermarriage, ecclesiastical intervention in its regulation and the need for paternal consent which determines a strong pa-triarchal character. The discourse of modernity repeatedly stresses the preponderance of parental authority. In the 18th century, this practice acquires greater legal force with the pragmatic about marriages that enacts Charles 23 March 1776. In this paper we will discuss the impact that the application of the rule of 1776 was in marriages in the Islands. Consulted sources show different to the transmitted by the official discourse reality. Marriage licenses allow us to delving into a space of family conflict. The confrontation between parents and daughters, young men and women, that defy the paternal will in the pursuit of marriage for love.
