Apoyándome en los cuestionamientos y orientaciones de la “New Atlantic History”, mi propósito consistirá en avanzar algunas hipótesis para estudiar la especificidad del “universo urbanístico portugués” en el espacio atlántico. En primer lugar, quisiera insistir en la invención de las formas urbanísticas “atlánticas” de parte de los portugueses, desde el siglo XV —no sólo las islas (Azores, Madera, Cabo Verde) sino también el litoral marroquí quedarán estudiados como unos lugares privilegiados de experimentación social y urbanística. En segundo lugar, se cuestionará el desplazamiento de estas formas en el espacio atlántico —lo que nos llevará a tomar la medida de su transformación, adaptación y mutación, tanto en la África negra como en Brasil.En tercer lugar, evocaré el caso paroxístico de Mazagán, “la ciudad que cruzó el Atlántico” — la fortaleza portuguesa implantada en Marruecos cuyos habitantes van a ser desplazados (por fuerza) para fundar una Nueva Mazagán en Amazonia.
Basing on the questionings and orientations of the “New Atlantic History”, my purpose will consist in reaching some hypothesis to study the specificity of the “Portuguese urban universe” in the Atlantic space. In first place, I would like to insist in the Portuguese invention of the “Atlantic” urban forms from the 15th Century —not only the Islands (Azores, Madera, Cabo Verde) but also the Moroccan coast will be studied as privileged places of social and urban experimentation. In second place, the displacement of these forms in the Atlantic space will be questioned —which will lead us to take measures of its transformation, adaptation and mutation, in Black Africa as well as in Brazil. In third place, I will evoke the paroxysm of the case of Mazagan, “the city that crossed the Atlantic” —the Portuguese fortress implemented in Morocco whose inhabitants were forced to move to establish a New Mazagan in Amazonia.
