Aproximación a la cultura popular en el cómic: la piratería y el Atlántico en El Cachorro y Águila Azul / Approach to the popular culture in the comic: the piracy and the Atlantic in “El Cachorro” and Hawks of the Seas

Resumen

Analizamos la visión del Atlántico moderno en algunos cómics. El cómic, como producto cultural, refleja el contexto histórico y cultural en que se elabora. Intentamos conocer qué ideas, mentalidad e instrumentalización subyace tras algunas obras. Analizaremos a Iranzo (la piratería berberísca en El Cachorro) y a Will Eisner (El Águila Azul) así como breves refe-rencias a otras historietas. Comparativamente El Cachorro presenta un mayor “realismo” que le permite enganchar mejor con el lector: otros son héroes por un hecho del pasado que les llevó a una vida aventurera. El Cachorro parte de cero, sin condicionamientos, es alguien que hace su “trabajo” brillantemente lo que le permite ascender “laboral” y socialmente. El Cachorro se convierte en ejemplo: el lector puede emularle y con esfuerzo, protagonizar una promoción laboral y social.

We analyze the vision of the modern Atlantic in some cómics. The comic, like a cultural product, reflects the historical and cultural context in which it is elaborated. We try to know which ideas, mentality and its use of instrument for the achievement of a purpose underlie after some works. We will analyze Iranzo (the barbary piracy in El Cachorro) and Will Eisner (Hawks of the Seas) as well as brief references to other comic strips. In comparison El Cachorro presents a greater “realism” that allows him to hook better with his reader: others are heroes by a fact of the past that took them to an adventurous life. “El Cachorro” starts from zero, without conditions, who is somebody that does his “work shiningly” what allows him to ascend “labour” and socially. El Cachorro becomes an example: the reader can emulate him and with effort, carry out a labour and social promotion.
