Resumen

El objetivo de esta exposición es aportar una visión fundada y comprensiva de los procesos conducentes a la revolución independentista de las colonias hispanoamericanas en el contexto del mundo sudatlántico. No se trata de ir en búsqueda de cuestiones particulares que nos ayuden a explicar situaciones coyunturales, sino volcar una visión totalizadora, partiendo del conocimiento y la experiencia proporcionada por las investigaciones realizadas sobre la economía y, en especial, del comercio sudatlántico. No se pretende hacer una exposición de compromiso, como consecuencia de encontrarnos en los inicios del bicentenario de las independencias americanas, Por el contrario, aprovechar justamente esta conmemoración para abordar cuestiones esenciales en la comprensión del proceso y aportar nuevos aspectos interpretativos. En procura de consolidar este esfuerzo de síntesis, abordaremos las dinámicas transformadores que se registran desde la segunda mitad del siglo XVIII hasta las primeras décadas del XIX. En el marco de las condiciones regionales, nacionales e internacionales, nos introduciremos con una sólida base documental y estadística, en los cambios producidos desde la metrópoli, ya por convicción o necesidad, y en los complejos proceso que conducen tanto a lo que he dado en llamar la apertura al tráfico internacional, como a la reversión en el comercio y la navegación de la coyuntura pre y postrevolucionaria.

The aim of this exposition is to provide a comprehensive insight based on the driving forces behind the independence revolution of the Hispano-American colonies in the context of the South Atlantic world. Here, it is not so much about looking for particular questions that assist us in explaining situations relating to the moment, but instead taking a more holistic approach, focusing on the knowledge and experience produced through the academic investigations in relation to the economy and especially South Atlantic commerce in a wider sense. Here, it is not about trying to produce an obligatory exposition as a consequence of finding ourselves at the beginning of the bicentenary of the American independence, on the contrary, it is more about taking advantage of this commemoration to enable us to tackle essential questions relating to the comprehension of the process and provide new, interpretative aspects. With the aim of consolidating and brining together all this information, we will look at the dynamic transformers that have existed since the second half of the 18th Century until the early decades of the 19th Century. In line with regional, national and international conditions, we will familiarize ourselves with a solid documental and statistical base, with the changes that have taken place since the Metropolis and with the complicated processes’ that drive not only what I have called the opening of international traffic, but also the reversal in commerce and the navigation of the pre and post revolution situation.
