Esta contribución es una continuación a la expuestapor Pedro Nolasco Leal Cruz en el anterior Coloquioen la que presentamos el siguiente título: “Las Palmasde Gran Canaria vista por trece escritores y escritorasde viajes de lengua inglesa (25 años: 1883-1908)”.Huelga señalar, pues, que Las Palmas de Gran Canariano va a ser tratada en esta contribución. Damos larelación de los doce escritores de viajes (uno de ellosfrancés) que viajaron en el período citado a GranCanaria. Estos son: Olivia Stone (1883). B. Ellis(1885). Isaac Latimer y su hija Frances Latimer (1887)y (1888), respectivamente. Harold Lee (1888). CharlesEdwardes (1889). E. Samler Brown (1889). JohnWhitford (1890). René Verneau (1890). Charles F.Baker (1892). Florence Du Cane que lo haceprobablemente en la primera década del XX.Finalmente Margaret D”Este (1908). Se ha analizadosu acceso por mar: de la vela se pasa al vapor, suhospedaje, el modo de desplazarse por esta isla, a pie oen tracción animal. Se estudia la agricultura, la pesca,la exportación e importación; los proyectos esbozadospara mejorar las condiciones de vida. Para el análisisde los distintos municipios y pueblos citados se hatenido en cuenta los tres grandes caminos reales queexistían en la época en Gran Canaria. Se han utilizadolas obras en versión original (inglés o francés).

This contribution is a follow-up of the given by PedroNolasco Leal Cruz in the preceeding XIX Coloquio deHistoria canario-americana, in which we presentedthe following title: “Las Palmas de Gran Canaria vistapor trece escritores y escritoras de viajes de lenguainglesa (25 años: 1883-1908)”. That is: “Las Palmas deGran Canaria According to thirteen English TravelWriters (25 years: 1883-1908)”. That is the reason whythat the city of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria is notincluded in this contribution. We give the names of thetwelve travel writers (one of them a Frenchman) whotravel to Gran Canaria in the given period: These travelwriters are: Olivia Stone (1883). B. Ellis (1885). IsaacLatimer and his daughter Frances Latimer (1887) and(1888), respectively. Harold Lee (1888). CharlesEdwardes (1889). E. Samler Brown (1889). JohnWhitford (1890). René Verneau (1890). Charles F.Baker (1892). Florence Du Cane who probably travelsin the first decade of the XX Century, and finallyMargaret D”Este (1908). We have studied: their wayof reaching the island; lodging, their way of travellingthrough the island: on foot or on horseback. Likewise,agriculture, fishing, exports and imports, and projectsto improve the living conditions of the island arestudied. In order to analyze the different municipalitiesand villages the three major bridle paths and roads thatexisted at that time in Gran Canaria have been takeninto account. We have used the different travel booksin their original versions (English or French).
