En los últimos años se ha puesto de manifiesto lacreciente necesidad de evaluar la actividad científicaen España, realizada a partir de medios transparentes yobjetivos. La evaluación permite conocer mejor elsistema científico de los países y regiones, poniendode relieve sus problemas y ventajas y permitiendoadoptar medidas que favorezcan su desarrollo.También los propios investigadores son los primerosinteresados en la utilización de métodos científicoscuantitativos y cualitativos con el fin de evaluar supropia actividad, asumiendo de forma natural que suactividad profesional sea evaluada con objetividad,independencia y transparencia.El presente estudio expone los problemas yperspectivas del proyecto de investigación “Análisis yevolución de la producción científica del área de Artesy Humanidades en Canarias en el periodo 1989-2009”,financiado por el Gobierno de Canarias a través de laAgencia Canaria de la Investigación, Innovación ySociedad de la Información, así como los resultadospreliminares en varias áreas de conocimiento delcampo de Arte y Humanidades en las dosuniversidades canarias.
In the last years it is becoming evident the growingneed of evaluating the scientific activity by objectiveand transparent means. This will allow us to betterknow the scientific systems of each country andregion, evidencing their problems and advantages, andwill enable us to adopt measures to foster theirdevelopment. Scientific researchers have the greatestinterest in using quantitative and qualitative scientificmethods with the objective of evaluating their ownactivity, provided that their professional activity isevaluated objectively, independently and transparently.The present study provides an insight into theproblems and perspectives of the research project"Analysis and evolution of the scientific production inthe area of Arts and Humanities in the Canary Islandsduring the period 1989-2009", funded by theGovernment of the Canary Islands through the CanaryIslands Agency of Research, Innovation andInformation Society. In addition, it presents thepreliminary results of the research in the areas of Artsand Humanities in the two Canarian Universities.
