El instante de la muerte marcaba el inicio de algoperdurable y eterno: la otra vida. Tal creencia,profundamente arraigada en la sociedad que conformóla institución —materia de este estudio—, explica susinquietudes ultraterrenas, de ahí, todas lasprecauciones que tomaron para la salvación de sualma. En función de dichas previsiones se creanasociaciones piadosas (intermediarias entre el pueblo ylas altas esferas religiosas), receptoras de donativos,mandas testamentarias, etc. El término religiosidadpopular engloba así el concepto de “más allá”, comotrascendencia del ser, además de enlazar la religión ala vida cotidiana del pueblo y crear mecanismos paraexpresar su fervor religioso. Por ello, la relación debienes muebles de la cofradía de Betancuria, permitirárelacionar, sucintamente, estos objetos con laexpresión del culto.
