El propósito del presente artículo es recuperar lahistoria de una localidad ubicada a tan solo 80 km dela Ciudad de México. Originalmente conocido comoSanta María Nueva España —y, más adelante,“Españita”—, el lugar tiene un rasgo peculiar: ahí seveneraba a la Virgen de Loreto, santa patrona de laCompañía de Jesús. Puesto que esta tenía comoencomienda llevar su veneración al Nuevo Mundo, elhecho nos indica la presencia de los jesuitas en dicholugar.
The aim of this article is to rescue the history of a townlocated only 50 miles away from Mexico City. It wasoriginally known as Santa Maria Nueva España; lateron, it was called “Españita”. The village showed apeculiar trait-it venerated the Virgin of Loreto, patronsaint of the Society of Jesus. Since it had been incharge of taking her into the New World, the fact tellsus about the Jesuits’ presence there.
