Resumen

Pocos fueron los gobiernos que, independientementede cuál fuera su tendencia política, durante los treintano advirtieron la enorme influencia que el cine ejercíasobre la población. Casi todos ellos, incluso los demayor tradición democrática, se apresuraron aestablecer medidas para controlar el contenido de laspelículas. Grand Canary, una producción de la FoxFilm Corporation de 1934, se convirtió en un filmpolémico por la manera en que reflejaba la situaciónsocial del archipiélago canario. Preocupado por losprejuicios que el filme podía causar a la imagenturística de Canarias, el gobierno de la II Repúblicadecidió prohibir su exhibición pública en todo elterritorio nacional.

During the thirties many governments of differentpolitical tendencies became aware of the enormousinfluence of cinema on society. Almost all of them,even the democratic ones, hastened to control thecontent of the movies through censorship. GrandCanary, a 1934 Fox Film Corporation, it became avery controversial film in Spain because the way itrepresented the social situation of the Canary Islandsin those years. Worried about the serious prejudicesthe film could make to the touristic image of theislands, the government of the Spanish SecondRepublic decided to ban the public exhibition of themovie in its territory.
