Nicolás Calzadilla y García fue el Deán de la catedral de Las Palmas hasta su retiro en 1861 a su hacienda natal, en La Victoria de Acentejo. Antes de su muerte, lo dispuso todo para ser enterrado en la ermita de San Juan Bautista, de su propiedad, donde aún hoy se conserva la lápida con su nombre. A pesar de ello, en su partida de defunción civil se especifica que debía ser enterrado en el cementerio del pueblo. Ante la duda sobre la localización de sus restos, se decidió intervenir en la fosa de la ermita. Se realizó un estudio bioantropológico y se pusieron en práctica algunas técnicas de conservación, despejando algunas incógnitas sobre el paradero de este relevante personaje de la historia de nuestras islas.
Nicolás Calzadilla and García was the Dean of the Cathedral of Las Palmas until his retirement in 1861 to his native hacienda in La Victoria de Acentejo. Before his death, arranged for him he arranged to be buried in the church of San Juan Bautista, his property, where even today the tombstone with his name is still preserved. However, on his death certificate it is specified that he should be buried in the village cemetery. Due to the doubt about the location of his remains, it was decided to intervene in the pit of the chapel. One bioanthropological study was conducted and some conservation techniques were implemented, we have cleared some questions about the whereabouts of this important figure in the history of our islands.
