Resumen

En el periodo comprendido desde fines del siglo XV hasta mediados del ochocientos Las Palmas se convirtió en una de las principales ciudades del atlántico medio, ejerciendo un  papel primordial en el eje del intercambio tricontinental.  Las funciones desempeñadas por la urbe dentro del marco socioeconómico regional la elevaron al máximo rango administrativo-político. En el ámbito comercial brilló durante casi todo el periodo moderno al convertirse en u mercado donde se comercializó e intercambiaron productos y capitales generados en la isla, se fomentó una variada artesanía y se participó económicamente en el marco local, regional e internacional. A ello sumó su función como plaza financiera de primer orden, tanto para acudir a los préstamos solicitados por el campesinado o vecinos de la ciudad, como para invertir dinero en diversos tipos de iniciativas insulares o externas.

In the period since the end of the 15th century until the middle of the 19th century Las Palmas became one of the main cities of the central Atlantic environment, exercising a primary role in the axis of the Tri-Continental Exchange. The duties performed by the city within the regional socio-economic context raised it to the maximum administrative political range. The city shone in the commercial field almost throughout the modern period becoming a market where products were sold and exchanged together with resources generated in the island. A varied craftwork was promoted and participated and a result islanders invested in the local, regional and international context. Adding this to role as an outstanding financial area of the first order, both for loans requested by the peasantry or neighbours in the city, to invest money in different types of island or external initiatives.
