Resumen

Este artículo ofrece una interpretación simbólica e iconográfica del presbiterio de la parroquia de san Juan Bautista de La Orotava, incidiendo en la singularidad del tabernáculo que lo preside, el uso litúrgico de sus espacios y el programa pictórico de cubiertas, arcos, paredes y otros bienes muebles. Reivindica su valía como una manifestación de la piedad reformista del siglo XVIII, cuando, al amparo de los ideales de la Ilustración, dicha dependencia quedó configurada como un paradigma para el culto sacramental y la devoción profesada al santo titular en calidad de precursor de Cristo. / This study offers a symbolic and iconographic interpretation of the presbytery of the parish of san Juan Bautista in La Orotava, focusing on the originality of the tabernacle that presides over it, the liturgical use of its spaces and the pictorial program of ceilings, arches, walls and other sacred furniture. It exposes its value as a manifestation of the reformist piety of the Eighteenth century, when, under the protection of the ideals of the Enlightenment, this place was configured as a paradigm of the sacramental cult and of the devotion professed to the titular saint as the precursor of Christ.
