Dos Asociaciones culturales grancanarias a principios del siglo XX. Apuntes de historia cultural / Two cultural Associations from the early 20th century in Gran Canaria. Cultural and historical notes
Resumen
En las primeras décadas del siglo XX toda España conoció numerosas agrupaciones asociativas impulsadas por grupos limitados de individuos de inquieta y voluntariosa personalidad a quienes alentaba el afán de dar expresión a impulsos artísticos propios y compartir (y debatir) inquietudes, opiniones y aficiones. Existieron en todas las Canarias y, aunque de distinto alcance y significación, su peso cultural fue importante: allí se leía, se intercambiaban noticias, se conversaba, se discutía… Las más interesantes programaban conferencias, recitales poéticos y actuaciones de teatro. De la gran mayoría de estos espacios sólo conocemos hoy el nombre y noticias más o menos confusas. De las que dejaron actas de sus Juntas o imprimían programas de sus actuaciones podemos tener más datos. El presente trabajo tratará de dos de estas asociaciones que tuvieron en Gran Canaria importancia singular: El Recreo y Los doce.
In the first few decades of the Twentieth Century, there were numerous groups and cultural associations that flourished all over Spain promoted by small numbers of creative people eager to give outlet to their artistic concerns, to debate their interests and share their concerns, opinions and hobbies. The Canary Islands were no exception and, despite their varying significance and scope, these small associations pulled their weight in cultural circles. Texts were read and circulated there, news exchanged and debates and discussions were held. The more active groups even organised conferences, poetry readings and performances of plays. Nowadays, only their names persist or some limited and confused references to their organization, in the shape of Minutes of their Meetings or printed programmes of their events. This article underlines the particular importance of two of these associations in Gran Canaria: El Recreo and Losdoce.
