El municipio de Santa Cruz de Tenerife surgió a principios del siglo xix y poco tiempo después se convirtió en capital de la nueva provincia de Canarias. El cambio institucional generó fuertes tensiones políticas y las autoridades del nuevo municipio debieron buscar los fondos precisos para hacer valer sus pretensiones. Este artículo examina este proceso de creación de la primera hacienda municipal de Santa Cruz de Tenerife.
The municipality of Santa Cruz de Tenerife emerged in the early nineteenth century and shortly after became the capital of the new province of the Canary Islands. Institutional change generated strong political tensions and the authorities of the new municipality had to find the funds needed to enforce their claims. This article examines the process of creating the first municipal treasury Santa Cruz de Tenerife.
