Resumen

Para la realización del presente trabajo se han revisado seis diarios neoyorkinos —The New York Sun, The New York Tribune, The New York Times y The New York Herald, The New York World y The New York Journal— y se han hallado más de medio centenar de referencias a Benito Pérez Galdós en sus páginas, entre 1883 y 1920. Se ha comprobado que Galdós, como suceso noticiable, presenta el mismo comportamiento que cualquier otra información, lo que muestra que los periódicos analizados se rigen por criterios mercantilistas muy estrictos, lo que les lleva a ser inflexibles con sus líneas editoriales, a tener siempre en cuenta a su público lector objetivo y a aplicar criterios de selección periodísticos. Así, la presencia de Galdós crece a lo largo de todo el periodo, pasando de ser «topic» a «trending topic» por diversos factores periodísticos objetivos. / To perform the present job, six New York newspapers has been reviewed —The New York Sun, The New York Tribune, The New York Times and The New York Herald, The New York World and The New York Journal— and has been founded in their pages more than fifty references to Benito Pérez Galdós between 1883 and 1920. As a remarcable fact, has been checked that Galdós has the same treatment as any other information, which shows that the analyzed newspapers are driven under very strict mercantile criteria, which forces them to be inflexible in their editorial lines, to have always in consideration their target readers and to apply journalist selection criteria. Thus, Galdós presence grows along this period, moving from being “topic” to be “trending topic” by different objective journalist factors.
