LA LITERARICIDAD COMO ARMA CONTRA LA CENSURA EN EL PERIODISMO DE GALDÓS Y CLARÍN / LITERARICITY AS A WEAPON AGAINST CENSORSHIP IN THE JOURNALISM OF GALDÓS AND CLARÍN

Resumen

A través del efecto viral de la prensa decimonónica, la actividad del escritor, que antes se había dedicado exclusivamente a escribir novelas o cuentos, se hace cosa pública. Entre los escritores-periodistas que declaran la colaboración en los grandes rotativos, una parte imprescindible de su labor artística se cuenta sin duda con Benito Pérez Galdós y Leopoldo Alas. No obstante, las circunstancias políticas y la consiguiente censura de prensa en gran parte del siglo XIX representan un verdadero obstáculo para la libre expresión en el nuevo medio. Con el fin de seguir expresándose libremente, tanto Galdós como Clarín cultivan el artículo literario-periodístico, en el cual se alternan literatura y periodismo y cuya crítica política está ubicada en la parte caracterizada por la literaricidad. / Due to the viral effect of press in the 19th century, the activity of the novelists who had dedicated themselves before exclusively to write novels or tales, becomes public matter. Benito Pérez Galdós and Leopoldo Alas count among those novelists-journalists who define their collaboration in the newspapers as an indispensable part of their artistical work. Nevertheless, the political circumstances and the resulting censorship of the press during the major part of the 19th century represent a real obstacle for free expression in the new medium. With the objective of expressing themselves freely, both Galdós and Clarín cultivate the literary-journalistic article in which literature and journalism alternate, implying political attacks in the literary part.
