GALDÓS EN LOS ESCENARIOS DE LA II REPÚBLICA: EL ESTRENO DE FORTUNATA Y JACINTA EN EL TEATRO ESPAÑOL DE MADRID / GALDÓS ON THE STAGES OF THE SECOND REPUBLIC: THE DEBUT OF FORTUNATA Y JACINTA AT THE TEATRO ESPAÑOL OF MADRID

Resumen

Entre 1930 y 1936, la actriz Margarita Xirgu y el director de escena Cipriano de Rivas Cherif estrenaron una serie de montajes dedicados a la dramaturgia española contemporánea, funciones firmadas por autores de la talla de García Lorca, Alberti, Casona, Unamuno, Valle-Inclán, Benavente o Marquina, apostando por la calidad literaria y la renovación escénica, pero sin olvidar los rendimientos económicos. En este proyecto innovador para la escena profesional, de combinar arte y negocio, entra el estreno de Fortunata y Jacinta en el Teatro Español de Madrid.
Para contextualizar adecuadamente esta obra en los propósitos artísticos de la compañía Xirgu-Rivas Cherif, junto al análisis de su puesta en escena, adaptación textual y recepción crítica, en este trabajo se dará cuenta, además, aunque de forma somera, de los otros estrenos de la compañía y de los títulos y géneros que, durante la II República, ocupaban las carteleras de los escenarios españoles. / Between 1930 and 1936, the actress Margarita Xirgu and the stage director Cipriano de Rivas Cherif debuted a series of productions dedicated to contemporary Spanish dramaturgy, performances with the signature of playwrights of the stature of García Lorca, Alberti, Casona, Unamuno, Valle-Inclán, Benavente or Marquina, wagering on literary quality and stage renewal but not forgetting the economic yields. As part of this innovative project for the professional stage, of combining art and business, the debut of Fortunata y Jacinta came on at the Teatro Español in Madrid.
To adequately contextualize this play within the artistic aims of the Xirgu-Rivas Cherif company, together with the analysis of its staging, textual adaptation and critical reception, in this present piece of work we will also tell of, albeit briefly, the other debuts of the company and of the titles and genres that, during the Second Republic, filled the billboards of Spanish theatres.
