GALDÓS EN LA PRENSA DIARIA BELGA DE PRINCIPIOS DEL SIGLO XX / GALDÓS IN THE BELGIAN DAILY PRESS IN THE EARLY XXth CENTURY

Resumen

Después de una breve presentación de la prensa diaria belga de finales del siglo XIX y principios del XX, expondremos los resultados cuantitativos de una investigación sobre la presencia de Galdós en los periódicos belgas, entre 1885 y 1917. Su nombre figura como autor de folletines, en anuncios de novelas y de representaciones dramáticas y en artículos. La mayor atención por su figura coincide con las primeras representaciones de Electra en España en 1901, en París en 1904 y en Bruselas en 1905. Su participación activa en el republicanismo también tuvo ecos en la prensa periódica. El interés por el mensaje anticlerical de Galdós, que encuentra su correspondencia en las luchas ideológicas coetáneas belgas, sobrepasa de lejos el interés por su obra literaria. / After a brief presentation of the Belgian daily press at the end of the 19th and the beginning of the 20th century, we will expose the quantitative results of a research on the presence of Galdós in Belgian newspapers between 1885 and 1917. His name appears as the author of serialised novels, in advertisements for novels and dramatic performances, and in articles. The highest amount of attention for his figure coincides with the first representations of Electra in Spain in 1901, in Paris in 1904 and in Brussels in 1905. His active participation in the republican movement also received attention in the daily press. The interest in Galdós’s anticlerical message, which echoed the contemporary Belgian ideological struggles, far exceeded the interest in his literary work.
