El artículo estudia el manuscrito galdosiano Comercio de Madrid, una cuartilla en la que el novelista recopiló datos sobre el comercio textil matritense en el siglo XIX, escrita con posterioridad a la versión preliminar de la primera parte de Fortunata y Jacinta. Esta información fue introducida más tarde en varios lugares de la versión definitiva de esta parte, especialmente en el capítulo 1, II «Santa Cruz y Arnaiz. Vistazo histórico sobre el comercio matritense». Galdós trabajó con dicha información de tres formas distintas: la reprodujo literalmente; la difuminó para ocultar la identidad de algunos personajes históricos; la transformó añadiéndole valores metafóricos. / The article studies the Galdosian manuscript Comercio de Madrid, written after the preliminary version of the first part of Fortunata y Jacinta. In Comercio de Madrid, the novelist gathered data on the XIXth century textile trade of Madrid. This information was later introduced in different places of the definitive version of that part, especially in chapter 1, II «Santa Cruz y Arnaiz. Vistazo histórico sobre el comercio matritense». Galdós worked with the said information in three different ways: he reproduced it literally; he blurred it to hide historical character’s identity; he transformed it to add metaphorical values.
