LA CIUDAD DE TOLEDO COMO ESPACIO VITAL DE GALDÓS / THE CITY OF TOLEDO AS A LIFE SPACE FOR GALDÓS

Resumen

Este breve artículo pretende un acercamiento a la relación de Benito Pérez Galdós con la ciudad de Toledo, cuyo descubrimiento en fechas muy tempranas de su vida llevó al escritor a mantener con ella una relación creciente que la convertirá en un espacio imprescindible de su vida y de su obra. Planteamos un recorrido de aproximación por algunos de los lugares en los que se movió Galdós y que fueron parte importante de sus andanzas toledanas: los restaurantes, las fondas, las casas de sus amigos, las largas caminatas por el laberinto urbano, las visitas asiduas a los conventos de monjas y el reflejo tranquilo de algunos espacios ya desaparecidos, en una ciudad que, aunque se ha transformado bastante, aún mantiene una parte importante de aquella esencia decimonónica. En definitiva, una invitación a recuperar la imagen de Galdós en uno de los espacios vitales más queridos por él. / The purpose of this brief article is to approach the relationship between Benito Pérez Galdós and the city of Toledo, which was discovered by the writer very early in his life and which became an essential part of his life and work. This is a journey through some of the places where Galdós moved and which were an important part of his wanderings in Toledo: the restaurants, the inns, the houses of his friends, the long walks through the urban labyrinth, the assiduous visits to the nuns' convents and the quiet reflection of some spaces that have already disappeared. All this in a city that, despite its transformation, still maintains an important part of that nineteenth-century essence. In short, an invitation to recapture the image of Galdós in one of his most beloved life spaces.
