LA CONFLICTIVA FORMACIÓN DE LA IDENTIDAD NACIONAL EN LA ESPAÑA DEL XIX / THE TROUBLED TRAINING OF THE NATIONAL IDENTITY IN SPAIN IN THE 19TH CENTURY

Resumen

Este trabajo parte de la comprobación de la existencia de procesos formativos de identidad, o etnicización, en la historia de los países europeos y en muchas de sus muy antiguas monarquías que para sobrevivir, hubieron de adaptarse a las condiciones de legitimidad que el mundo contemporáneo exigía. Estudiada tal cuestión en la España que sigue a la ‘construcción estatal temprana’ que logró la monarquía establecida por los Reyes Católicos, y luego en los caracteres añadidos de la etapa ilustrada, para llegar al asunto en la etapa decisiva de la cuestión en la España del siglo XIX, este trabajo viene a concluir que, debido a la amplia y compleja problemática social e histórica que envolvió el tema a lo largo de la centuria, la identidad nacional que resultó de tal etapa sólo pudo ser débil e insuficiente; y que no logró el siglo XX conformar una política de nacionalización fuerte y eficaz. Tal cuestión, a la postre, viene a sustentar una de las raíces de los problemas que todavía subsisten en la España del siglo XXI.

This work begins with the confirmation of the existence of the identity training process, or ethnicisation, in the history of the European countries and also in other many ancient monarchies that, in order to survive had to get use to the legitimacy conditions that the contemporary world required them. Once we have studied this issue in the Spain that follows the ‘early statal construction’ founded by the “Catholic Kings”, and more subjects of the enlightenment stage, to get in to the issue in the decisive stage in Spain in the 19th century, this work concludes that, because of the wide and complex social and historical difficulties that involved this question during the century, the national identity only become weak and insufficient, that didn’t achieve an effective and strong nationalization in the 20th century. At the end, this question will support one of the main causes for the problems in Spain in the 21st century.
