Resumen

Hay un aspecto poco visitado en la narrativa de Galdós del cual se puede inferir cierto conocimiento sobre el pensamiento literario del autor si observamos con detenimiento. Es notoria la identificación fragmentaria del escritor en personajes como Moreno Isla, Juanito Santa Cruz o Ido del Sagrario. Y, con probabilidad, mayor parecido guarda aún su persona en los años de juventud con el personaje de Miquis. Sin embargo, es la singular y lateral aparición que realiza D. Benito en algunas páginas de sus textos, convirtiendo su persona en un personaje más del nutrido universo ficcional, la que llama poderosamente la atención. Es cosa sabida la timidez exacerbada del autor y su connatural modestia. Muestras frecuentes de tal actitud y talante ante la vida hay en su biografía. Si conocemos la personalidad del escritor, de normal huidizo y bien celoso de su ajetreada intimidad, no debemos dejar estos detalles escondidos entre su abultada obra sin analizar.

There is a poorly analyzed aspect of Galdós' narrative from which we can deduce some knowledge about the literary thought of the author, if we observe it with attention. It's known that there is a fragmentary identification of the author with characters like Moreno Isla, Juanito Santa Cruz or Ido del Sagrario. And probably his person in youth presented a great similarity with the character of Miquis. However, the singular and secondary appearance realised by D. Benito in some pages of his text —that turns him into another character of the fictional universe— is really interesting. His exacerbate shyness and his genuine modesty are well known, there are frequent demonstrations of this behaviour in his biography. If we know the personality of the author, elusive and very jealous of his intimacy, we don't have to leave these hidden details, of his great work, without being analyzed.
