EL MUNDO DEL SIGLO XIX EN LA OBRA PERIODÍSTICA DE GALDÓS / THE WORLD OF THE 19TH CENTURY IN THE JOURNALISTIC WORK OF GALDÓS

Resumen

Este artículo examina la representación del mundo del siglo xix en la obra periodística de Galdós, con referencia específica a los artículos publicados en las Obras inéditas que se enfocan sobre las ciudades españolas y sus viajes. Analiza la relación de estos escritos con las ideas contemporáneas así como con las opiniones del autor antes de esbozar su importancia dentro de la producción literaria de Galdós. Resalta cómo a menudo se confunden los mundos de la realidad y de la ficción y sostiene que la obra periodística de Galdós debe considerarse como un campo de investigación crítica digno de estudio por sí solo.

This article examines the representation of the 19th-century world in Galdós’s journalistic work, with particular reference to the articles which were published in the Obras inéditas and focus on the Spanish cities and his travels. It analyses the relationship between the articles and the ideas of the period, as well as the author’s own opinions, before outlining their significance in the context of Galdós’s literary output. It highlights the way in which the boundaries between the real and fictional worlds are frequently blurred and argues that Galdós’s journalistic output should be considered as a research area that is worthy of attention in its own right.
