NOVELAR ES CURAR: GALDÓS Y GINÉ / WRITING NOVELS AS A TREAT: GALDÓS AND GINÉ

Este trabajo compara las ideas y figuras de las novelas de Galdós con la teoría y práctica del psiquiatra Juan Giné y Partagás, autor también de tres ‘novelas científicas’. Parte de la innegable relación de Galdós con médicos determinados y, avanzando, de la existencia en su biblioteca de un libro del joven psiquiatra J. Armangué (quien lo dedica a Giné) iluminado por el autor por trazos de color azul, lo que indica su lectura por parte de Galdós. Doña Perfecta se propone como la primera relación clara entre don Benito y Giné (Misterios de la locura) en asuntos como el del libre albedrío, o el del determinismo de la realidad social sobre las conductas, o el funcionamiento de la mente humana. El trabajo establece, finalmente, la cercanía de ambos escritores en situaciones concretas y en el trazado de personajes alienados por sus propias creencias, obsesiones o prejuicios; y también en que en ambos la novela puede servir de modo de terapia que la sociedad puede aprovechar para mejorarse a sí misma.
This work compares the ideas and figures of Galdós’s novels with the theory and practice of the psychiatrist Juan Giné y Partagás, an author of three “scientific novels”. Part of the undeniable relationship between Galdós and certain doctors and, moreover, the existence in his library of one book written by the young psychiatrist J. Armangué (whom dedicates to Giné) illuminated by the author with blue color strokes, which indicates that Galdós has read it. Doña Pefecta is proposed as the first clear relation between Mr. Benito and Giné (Misterios de Locura) in subjects like the freewill, or the determinism of the social reality over behaviors, or the running of the human mind. This work establishes, finally, the proximity between both writers in particular situations and creates characters according with his own beliefs, obsessions and prejudices; and also both writers use the novel as a therapy that society can use to improve them selves
