Benito Pérez Galdós presents in Cádiz —through his characters and through the voice of the narrator— the moment of the emergence of liberalism in Spanish political thought. Though we find mainly feuilleton plot in this Episode, it is stuffed with many references and opinions about Courts. Besides, there are chapters dedicated entirely to present the development of them. Supported in Spanish and foreign historians and other thinkers such as Aranguren and Abellan, among others, I want to present this peculiar Episode as the one which has the greater political significance —and not simply patriotic significance— within the first Galdosian series.
