PÉREZ GALDÓS EN LA PRENSA AMÉRICA A FINES DEL SIGLO DIECINUEVE: EL CASO DE 'LA ESTRELLA DE PANAMÁ' / PÉREZ GALDÓS IN THE AMERICAN PRESS AT THE END OF THE NINETEENTH-CENTURY: THE CASE OF 'LA ESTRELLA DE PANAMÁ'

Resumen

Esta intervención se centra en la presencia de Galdós en La estrella de Panamá, diario que empezó a publicarse en el país de su título en 1849, y que evidenciaba su característica de zona fronteriza, donde mucha de su población estaba de paso. Desde sus principios el periódico fue más de negocios y política que de cultura, por lo que es significativa la presencia allí de Galdós. Este trabajo analiza los elementos de la obra de Pérez Galdós que se realzan en el diario. También la relación entre las familias Duque y Galdós en Cuba y cómo pasaron a Panamá; y, finalmente, las posibles confluencias literarias entre Gabriel Duque, Domingo Galdós y Benito Pérez Galdós: un  dialogo trasatlántico que tuvo como marco inesperado un pequeño periódico del istmo.

This intervention focus on the presence of Galdós in La estrella de Panamá, journal that was published in the country with his title in 1849, and it shows his quality of border zone, where the most people were in passing. Since it begins the journal talks more about business and politic than culture, that’s way the presence of Galdós was very significant there. This work analyzes the elements of Pérez Galdós’s work that were highlight in the journal. Also the relationship between Duque and Galdós family in Cuba and how they went to Panamá; and, finally, the possible literary conjunctions between Gabriel Duque, Domingo Galdós and Benito Pérez Galdós: a transatlantic dialog that took place in an unexpected small journal of the isthmus.
