Galdós comenzó con problemas de visión antes de los 40 años. En 1911 y 1912 fue operado de cataratas. Al mismo tiempo presentó diversos trastornos neurológicos. Pienso que Galdós sufrió sífilis terciaria (tardía) manifestada por neurosífilis, sífilis ocular y, además, arterioloesclerosis e hipertensión. En este trabajo se describe el impacto de su muerte en Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, su ciudad natal, analizando los homenajes de las Instituciones culturales y de los Organismos oficiales y, además, aportando varios documentos inéditos.
Galdós started with sight troubles before he was 40 years old. In 1911 and in 1912 he was operated on for cataracts. At the same time, he presented some neurological symptoms. I think that Galdós suffered from terciay syphilis (late) manifested by tabetic neurolues and ocular syphilis, which was the cause of his blindness, and besides arterioloesclerosis and hypertensión. In this work there is described the impact of his death in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, his natal city, analyzing the honorings of the cultural Institutions and of the official Organisms and contributing some unpublished.
